The purpose of this website is to collect stories about caregiving experiences in the academy with the goal of sharing stories, best practices, and solutions.

Carework, or caregiving,┬áincludes short and long-term primary responsibility for children and adults. Inadequate supports for primary caregivers working in higher education lead to poor work-life balance and a “leaking” pipeline for tenure and promotion of academics. It has long term effects on their inclusion and visibility in the discipline, leading to silences in the promotion and negotiation of family-friendly work environments. For women academics, there is the specific, additional challenge of gendered assumptions about motherhood and professional productivity.
