Best Practices: Sick and Emergency Options

  • Do not discriminate by gender, race and ethnicity, sexual and partner orientation, socioeconomic class, formalized and legalized relationship statuses, academic institution types, employment status, or type of caregiving (e.g. self-care, partner care, parenting, eldercare; also mental and physical health).
  • Employees are not required to use sick days for anything except emergency self-care. Sick days should never be expended on childbirth; childbirth is not a sickness. Employees should not be required to use sick days for any caregiving context.
  • Sick child care facilities (see also Best Practices Family Accommodations)
  • Archive a database of emergency back-up lectures by topic
